Stat Attack: Players Who Carried Their Bats Through A Completed Innings In ODIs 1

No game gives as much importance to teammates as cricket. A player’s fortunes depends a lot on how his partners perform and without the co-operation of his fellow players, it is next to impossible to prosper in this game. And ‘carrying the bat’ is probably the biggest example of this.

The term, ‘carry the bat’ refers to an opening batsman who remains the only unbeaten player when his team’s innings is finished. Well, no matter how good the batsman is batting,if he runs out of the partners, the good form will count for nothing. Recently, New Zealand opener Tom Latham became only the tenth batsman in the history of One-Day Internationals to carry his bat when he remained unbeaten on 79 while his team was folded for 190 against India last month (October).

So here, we are presenting to the list of all the players who have managed to carry their bats in an ODI match.

After being whitewashed in the Test series, Kane Williamson’s men began the ODI series in a similar fashion as the batsmen again failed to perform with the willow. The Kiwi batsmen were falling like a pack of cards but their opening batsman Tom Latham held firm from one end and helped his team to get to 190 after being reduced to 65 for 7. In the process, he became the first player from his country to carry the bat.

Coming to the match’s result, India comfortably chased down the total in the 34th over. Virat Kohli was the highest scorer with 85 runs.
