The poor form of the England batsman Ben Duckett has forced the team management to take an action as now it is confirmed that the left-handed batsman is set to be dropped for the Mohali Test with Jos Butler making his way into the squad. Duckett has just scored just 18 runs in three innings he has played on this tour, but there is a highlighting fact that the youngster has only faced the spin duo of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on this tour. He is yet to play a fast bowler but it can’t be a hiding space for him.
Ben Duckett was pushed to the number four position before the start fo the Test series to make way for Haseeb Hameed in the opening slot. Since then, his form with the bat has been awful, hence, he will out of the next game and will be warming the bench.
“I think he’s coming to terms with the fact that the best way for him is to play like he does in one-day cricket,” Bayliss said of the 26-year-old Buttler.
“He’s showing a lot of confidence in the nets, which spin just as much as the centre does, and he’s certainly hitting the ball as well as anyone,” Bayliss added.
But there is a flaw in Buttler as well as in past one year, Buttler has played just one first-class game. His absenteeism from the longest format of the game may affect the England team when they get on the field on Saturday morning.
