A fourth consecutive stalemate at home has dealt a huge blow to Manchester United’s hopes of winning the title or finishing in the top four. With all the top four teams winning their matches, United needed a win to keep pace with them but are now eight points shy of fourth-placed Arsenal.
It was a disastrous start for the Red Devils as Diafra Sakho gave the Hammers the lead after just two minutes when he headed in Dimitri Payet’s free-kick. But Jose Mourinho’s men responded well to the early setback and restored parity in the 21st minute when Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed in Paul Pogba’s cross. But it was a story of so near yet so far for the home team throughout the match as Jose Mourinho’s men missed several chances. Their night turned worse when Mourinho was sent to the stands for kicking a water bottle while expressing his frustration when Pogba was booked for diving.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:
Twenty-two passes in build up to Ibrahimovic's goal. All 11 Manchester Utd players involved.

United play the proper relegation team football. Get the ball, cross the ball onto Ibra's head. #MUNWHU

Mourinho has rewarded Mkhitaryan's A performance by dropping him to the bench. Carrick's out of the squad. What a manager! #MUNWHU #MUFC

#mufc have failed to win four of their five post-Europa games. Strong selections on Thursdays have backfired.
