Manchester United are enduring a concerning run of form – there is little doubt about that when you look back at their recent performances.
Jose Mourinho – who arrived at Old Trafford bearing the expectation that he would return the club to its rightful place at the peak of domestic and continental football – has been disappointed by his team several times already.
The Red Devils are currently 11 points adrift of top spot on the Premier League table in sixth, while their Europa League campaign has also been far from convincing.
If the league and group standings are not unpleasant enough, the finer details of their poor run will likely set off alarm bells among most United supporters.

Mourinho has watched his team succumb to a third draw in four league outings against West Ham on Sunday evening – and the result looks even worse when put into a broader context.
United have claimed just seven points from their last six league fixtures – including a mere four from a possible 12 at home.
Mourinho’s men are becoming frustratingly used to taking a single point from matches which they dominate from start to finish in terms of possession and shots.
With that in mind, their struggles have mainly been pinned down to a lack of clinical finishing – a bizarre situation considering the wealth of attacking quality within the United ranks.
But even with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and co, the 20-time league champions have disgraced themselves in front of goal in recent fixtures.
United failed to net a winner against Stoke, Burnley and West Ham – three draws in which they scored three from a staggering 91 shots.
That is a conversion rate of just over one goal for every 30 strikes.

The old adage ‘if you don’t buy a ticket, you’ll never win the lottery’ certainly rings true in many cases, but its accuracy has certainly deserted United for the time being.
Goals build confidence, so it is difficult for any team to build momentum without having a reliable scorer to convert tactical domination into the only stat that truly matters: points.
