Jose Mourinho to Offer In-Form Attacker New Contract to Keep Him at the Club for the Long Term 1

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will not be too happy with the team’s performances in the recent games. They were held to yet another draw this weekend this time at home by West Ham United and the manager will hope that his team can get back to winning ways at least till the January transfer window.

Mourinho, who spent crazy money in the summer transfer window, is ready to let a number of squad players leave the club after the turn of the year and is all ready to spend big yet again to improve the quality in the squad.

However, Mourinho is well aware of the situation of the players in the team and is pondering over offering a few stars a contract extension going into the January transfer window.

And one player who might reportedly get an offer anytime soon is in-form Spanish attacker Juan Mata.

It is a bizarre journey for the 28-year old who was shunted out of Chelsea by Mourinho only to become an important player for the same manager at a different club.

Having joined Manchester United for £38m, Mata has been impressive in bits and pieces in the last few season and has found consistency hard to come by.

However, he has started the new season with a bang scoring 5 goals in 11 appearances and is easily the most impressive player for the Red Devils in front of goal this season.

He was also on target in the stalemate against West Ham at the weekend and Mourinho is now ready to offer him a contract extension going into the crunch festive season in the Premier League.

Mata’s contract will come to an end at the end of the next season and Mourinho is unable to sign him for the long term, Mata might leave the club next summer for a very meagre sum.

So it does not come as a surprise that Mourinho is ready to offer him an improvement on the £130,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford to keep him at the club in the long term.

Reports suggest that Mata was ready to wait until the end of the season to open talks with the club but his impressive form has seen Mourinho take the first step to tie him down to the club.

An Old Trafford source told The Sun: “Juan has been a key part of the team this season, despite a relatively poor start. It was thought his contract talks could wait, but Jose is keen to tie down some of the players whose deals are tuning out.”

So Mourinho is well advised to get Mata to put pen to paper as quickly as possible to ward off interests from other clubs. Do you think Mata can be a long term option for Manchester United?
