Despite spending £150 million and smashing the world transfer record this summer, Jose Mourinho is seemingly insistent that this Manchester United squad isn’t ‘his’.
The Portuguese boss had a very busy first transfer window at Old Trafford, bringing in Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Baily and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
But it seems Mourinho is eager to sell a few players at the club before he makes any further additions. It doesn’t take a football genius to work out the players that the former Chelsea manager doesn’t particularly fancy, with him restricting first-team football for some members of his squad.
The upcoming January transfer window could see plenty of action at United – especially in terms of selling.
And Manchester Evening News claims that as many as 10 players will be subject to interest from other clubs this winter.
They have named Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young and Sam Johnstone, Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial and Bastian Schweinsteiger as the players that other clubs are looking to sign.
All 10 of those named have struggled to play regular first-team football this season – if at all – and could well be keen to leave the club in the next transfer window.
However, the report also claims that United are only actively interested in selling one of those of players named – Schweinsteiger.
The German was banished from first-team training earlier this season and is yet to make an appearance under Mourinho. However, he has recently returned to training with the senior players and was named on the bench for the Red Devils’ Premier League match against West Ham.
There are also unconfirmed rumours that he could play against the Hammers for their EFL quarter-final clash.
Whether he plays or not, though, it looks fairly certain that he will leave the club in January. Time will tell if any of the other nine players mentioned will follow him out of Old Trafford.
