Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir strike form in the Vijay Hazare trophy match against Haryana as they scored 80 and 93 respectively in their side’s 3 wicket win over Haryana today. Chasing 248 in 50 overs, Delhi opener started positively as he seemed to be in the comfort zone after a long time. After losing Unmukt Chand and Milind Kumar early, Sehwag joined Gambhir at the crease as the duo smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Sehwag, who failed as an opener in the tournament, came into bat at number 4 and started attacking the bowlers right from the word go. He smashed 8 fours and three sixes in his 68 ball 80 before getting out to JJ Yadav. On the other hand, Gambhir was at his usual best as he blazed away to a 97 ball 93 with the help of 11 fours. The duo put on a 144 run partnership in 19 overs.
After failing in the initial stages of the tournament, today’s performance will give them a lot of confidence ahead of the World Cup. But the question that remains unanswered is “Is it too late for Sehwag and Gambhir to prove the selectors and pose a chance to play in the World Cup?”
If they continue their good form in the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches, they will stand a good chance to make it to the 2015 Cricket World Cup.
