Some former footballers can’t help but let themselves go a bit once they eventually decide to hang up their boots.
Following decades of having to watch their weight, what they eat and train virtually every day you can understand why many naturally pile of on the pounds once they are no longer involved in the sport.
Rio Ferdinand, however, is arguably in the best shape of his life despite quitting the game almost 18 months ago.
The secret behind his good fitness isn’t actually much of a secret as the former England centre-back regularly posts videos of his various exercise routines on his Instagram profile.
He was back at it again early on Wednesday morning by posting a clip of himself performing some bicep curls that he claimed he had done at 4:30am.
Of course, Ferdinand is no stranger to winding up his followers on social media and posted a similar video of him working out at ‘5:30am’ as you can see by the light in the latest video below, it clearly wasn’t 4:30am.
The 38-year-old was unsurprisingly met with some backlash, including from one of his former Manchester United teammates, Patrice Evra.
The left-back, who now plays for Juventus, trolled Ferdinand for his early morning routine with two comments on the post.
“Bro why are you awake at 4h30 I’m started to worry about you … do you want me to comeback home and we can have a little talk…@rioferdy5 I love this game ahahahahahaha,” Evra wrote.
“And also sorry bro ..but everyone know its 12h no 4h30 come on man@rioferdy5 I have been 8years there I know that sunshine doesn’t come out at 4h30 ahahahahahah I love this game.”

Ferdinand very rarely held back from a scrap during his playing days and showed he hasn’t lost any of his competitive edge by nibbling back with a quick response joking about Evra’s laziness.
“@patrice.evra you were never up and in early enough with me to training when we were teammates…u had crusty sleep in your eyes and dry toes….I used to have to show u that creaming your skin was part of life!!” Ferdinand replied.
That would usually be enough to end most social media feuds but Ferdinand took it one step further by calling Evra out again in his next post.
Although Evra is currently preparing for Juventus’ Champions League tie with Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night, he still found time to reply to his old teammate’s latest taunt.
“Ok bro lets get ready for the rumbleeeeeeeeeeee haahahahahaha I love this game @rioferdy5 but I’m scared being too short for that one.”
This could well be the start of a very entertaining rivalry.
