Manchester United are on the verge of signing Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij in a £30 million deal , according to reports in Italy.
The Dutch defender is one of the primary defensive targets for Chelsea as Conte has increased his interest in the young defender who has been impressive for Lazio since his move to the club in 2014 post his impressive performances for Netherlands national team in the world cup.
Il Messaggero claims that Manchester United are leading the race for the 24-year old as he has only 18 months left on his contract with the Serie A outfit. Jose Mourinho is reportedly impressed with the performances of the Dutch defender and is keen to activate his release clause next summer as he could be available for a cut price deal.
de Vrij has so far rejected a new contract at Lazio for three times and is reportedly ready to leave the club at the end of the ongoing season. Meanwhile, Manchester United looked poor in the defence as their defensive mistakes are costing them big time this season so far as they have now managed three consecutive 1-1 draws in the Premier League.
