Manchester United are still unsure of the future of out-of-favor defender Matteo Darmian, according to The Sun.
The 27-year old has struggled with playing time under Jose Mourinho as he has fallen down the pecking order at the club since the Portuguese tactician took over at Old Trafford. Darmian was impressive last season under Louis van Gaal as the Dutch manager gave him plenty of opportunities which saw him make the right back position his own during the course of the season.
However, since Mourinho took over he was speculated to leave Old Trafford entire summer as a host of Italian clubs were keen to take him back to Serie A. But the 27-year old has stayed put but found it difficult to break into the first team as his playing time is severely affected so far this season.
Jose Mourinho is keen to let Darmian leave on loan in January with a option to sign him permanently at the end of the season. Both Juventus and Inter Milan were interested in him earlier but no offers were received to sign him since the start of the season which is a cause of concern for United hierarchy as they are ready to offload him.
A United insider said The Sun: “Nobody knows what is going on with him. There have been no offers as of yet, just interest so far.
“The club will let him leave as long as the right offer comes in, but they want their money back that was paid originally.
“There is nothing brewing on the horizon. There is a fear they could be stuck with him until at least next summer.”
Despite his impressive performances in Serie A earlier, Italian clubs are reportedly unwilling to sign him back after his Manchester United struggles this season. He has joined United from Torino for £12.7m in 2015 but has barely featured in the Premier League this season.
