Bangladesh has been an improved limited overs side and there are no second thoughts regarding that. But there are some vital boxes that need to be ticked, as far as the scope for improvement is concerned for the Bangladeshis. Among those boxes, is the need to win overseas and prove that all their success isn’t just restricted within their home boundaries of the Mirpur Cricket Ground.
Ahead of the side’s tour of New Zealand, Bangladesh’s limited overs skipper Mashrafe Mortaza opened up about his side’s chances. In his chat with the press, the veteran Bangladesh pacer admitted that his side was more than eager to translate their limited overs success beyond their home turf.
“In the last couple of years, we played mostly at home and won many of those matches too,” Mortaza said. “We have been successful, now it’s a different challenge to playing outside the home. It’s a challenge even for established teams to do well in New Zealand. So from that aspect, it is a bigger challenge for us. The New Zealand weather is different from other areas, but we can take the momentum. We can take good memories, which will give us confidence.”
Ahead of the tour of New Zealand, Bangladesh is scheduled to participate in a training camp in Australia. Mortaza was quite optimistic about that aspect as well.”It will be good for us to work in Australia. We will live like a family. We will discuss all the problems. This makes it easier to work.”
“For example, we did a 15-day camp before the 2015 World Cup in Australia, which helped us a lot though we lost the four practice matches,” he added. “Before the World T20s, we trained in Khulna and Chittagong, and that helped us in the first round.”
