A fine bowling display from Australian pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood has put Australia in driver’s seat as Pakistan were reduced to 97 for 8, trailing Australia’s first innings total by 332 runs.
After dismissing the hosts for 429, Misbah-ul-Haq’s men made a poor start and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from Sarfraz Ahmed, who is batting on 31, only two Pakistan batsmen Sami Aslam (22) and Babar Azam (19) could cross the double-digit mark.
Earlier, resuming the day on 288 for 3, Steven Smith and Peter Handscomb added 35 runs before the Australian skipper was dismissed for 130 by Wahab Riaz. Smith’s dismissal opened the floodgates as from 323 for 3, the hosts were reduced to 354 for 7. But Handscomb held firm from one end and scored his first Test century. But surpassing the 400-run mark looked a tough job for Steven Smith’s men after Handscomb became the ninth Australian batsman to return to the pavilion with the scorecard reading 380. However, a 49- run partnership for the last wicket between Nathan Lyon and Jackson Bird helped the Aussies post 429.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the day’s play:
Great day Australia in the end. Not ideal to lose wickets quickly however in the field and with the ball Australia were awesome!#AUSvPAK

Is Wade only in the team because of his "niccceeeee Garrrryyyyy" catch cry?
It sure isn't for his keeping and batting. #AUSvPAK #wewantNev— Ben Harris (@benharris84) December 16, 2016
How ordinary is Wade's keeping. It's an insult to wicketkeepers that he is playing #AUSvPAK
