Sadio Mane has fitted in perfectly at Liverpool, after joining from Southampton for £34 million in the summer.
The Senegal international has linked up with Brazilians Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino to form arguably the most lethal attacking trio in the Premier League.
And it is, in part, thanks to Jurgen Klopp’s summer signing that the Reds currently top the league’s scoring charts with 40 goals so far this campaign.
Mane has hit the net seven times so far this season, and, ironically, the only league game the 24-year-old forward has missed was through injury in Liverpool’s first of two league defeats this season, away to Burnley.
His influence on the team has been evident all campaign and scored a fine debut goal, away to Arsenal on the opening day of the season in a 4-3 win.
Since then, Mane has gone from strength to strength, and was a target for Klopp during the German’s time in charge of Borussia Dortmund.
The Senegal winger was gaining attention from across Europe, while at Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, but Klopp missed out on the Mane who joined Southampton for £10 million in 2014.
“They (the players) were brilliant with him (Mane). The club, the atmosphere… That stuff helps, and a little bit of luck.” said Klopp, as per Goal.
“It worked out that he scored in his first game with a goal like this (against Arsenal). Come on! In a game like this, it makes everything easier.
“Then there is his attitude. He is a really hard-working boy. He is really open for advice. He wants each kind of improvement. He wants to do different things. He is good. He’s really good.
“The best news for me was that I could sign him. It was a mistake not to get him for Dortmund. The fact that I could get him a second time was good, really good.”
Klopp may have rued his failure to take Mane to the Westfalenstadion in the past, however, what is his former club’s loss is his current Liverpool team’s gain.
Dortmund, in fairness, are by no means short of high-quality talent in forward areas, while Liverpool have had to try and fill the void left by Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling, in recent years.
And it seems Klopp’s summer addition, along with Coutinho and Firmino, have helped to seal over the cracks left by Liverpool’s two big departures.
However, while Mane has fitted the bill at Anfield, fellow summer signing Loris Karius has come under fire so far this campaign for a number of blunders in goal, which has seen Klopp revert to last season’s first choice ‘keeper Simon Mignolet.
The Reds may have attacking talent in abundance, but they are yet to sort out a leaky defence that has already conceded 20 times this campaign – Everton and Bournemouth are the only other of the top ten clubs to concede as many goals.
