Since the retirement of Anil Kumble, Indian team is yet to get a leg spinner who can fill his boots. No one had ever come close to that mark, to level, the quality which Kumble possessed. Harbhajan Singh though after his retirement carried Indian team for three more years, but he was an off-spinner, and yes, we got a perfect replacement for him, R Ashwin. Ashwin’s quality of spin can be adjudged by the fact that Harbhajan is finding it difficult to make a comeback with Ashwin in his way. All the doors of his comeback are closed now but still there is one more door which is ajar.
Indian team is in a desperate need of a leg-spinner. Amit Mishra, who has been in Indian team from past 10 years have never been able to notch up to that level. He has been tested ‘N’ number of times but the end result is always which disappoints selectors. As a result, with a sudden emergence of Jayant Yadav, Mishra has now become the fourth option for Indian cricket team and now probably may also be dropped in future.
Meanwhile, Indian team also tried leg spinners like Rahul Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal but none of them could really get to that level. But now, it looks like Coach Anil Kumble has got a prospect in one player in whom he sees his successor, the player is none other than Murugan Ashwin, who has been recently released by Rising Pune Supergiants. He shot to the limelight in February this year on the IPL auction day when he garnered an amount of 4.5 Crores. He became the talk of the town at that time and again the chance has come to his door as he seems to impress the head coach of Indian cricket team, Anil Kumble, who was seen working with him ahead of the start of the third day’s play between India and England at Chennai.
Kumble was training the leggie and was teaching him the science of bowling, “It was a good interactive session. He was helping me out to rectify a few things. He said that I have good bounce, turn, and spin.He just made a few corrections so that I could get in line more often and be more consistent. I was bowling well and he just wanted to make a few corrections. He wanted me to finish across the body so that I could be at the stumps a lot more,” an elated Murugan Ashwin said.
Surely, Kumble is looking for a future prospect in him as previously we have seen players like Brainder Sran being inducted into the team after an impressive performance in the net session of the Indian team. If and only if Ashwin is able to impress Kumble, then there are also slight chance so him being inducted in the Indian team soon, maybe for the Bangladesh Test match, looking at the past record of Indian selectors.
