Australian opener Aaron Finch is set to have another stint with Surrey as the county outfit has re-signed the explosive batsman for the 2017 Natwest Twenty20 Blast.
The right-handed batsman, who scored 259 runs in six matches for the Oval outfit last year including three half-centuries, will be available for the entire season and will also play in first-class cricket when Kumar Sangakkara leaves for the Caribbean Premier League. The 30-year-old also played four matches in the County Championship and scored 292 runs at an average of 48.66 including one century and two half-centuries.
Expressing his delight over the re-signing, former England wicketkeeper and Surrey’s director of cricket Alec Stewart, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Finchy back to the Kia Oval after his positive impact on and off the field last season He remains one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket and I’m sure our members and supporters will enjoy watching him again.”
Meanwhile, Finch will be looking to find his form after a dismal show in the ODI series against New Zealand. The opening batsman scored only 22 runs in the three outings but roared back to form in his first game of this year’s Big Bash League as his 37-ball 63 runs knock helped Melbourne Renegades get the better of defending champions Sydney Thunder.
