The Hobart Hurricanes began their Big Bash League season in style by registering a comfortable victory of 60 runs over Sydney Sixers.
Batting first, the Hurricanes, led by their openers Tim Paine and D’Arcy Short, scored 200 for 6 in their 20 overs. Short, who was making his T20 debut, smashed 61 off only 29 deliveries while his experienced opening partner Paine adopted a more cautious approach and scored 63 off 45 balls.
In reply, the Sixers never looked like chasing down the huge target and were eventually dismissed for 140 runs in the 17th over. Jason Roy (40) and Sam Billings (42) tried their best to put up a fight but did not get any support from the other end.

Man of match D'Arcy Short was asked what it's like to play with Sangakkara: "Indescribable. Just to stand next to (him) is amazing." #BBL06

In the second match of the day.
Batting first, the Scorchers piled up 197 for 7.Ian Bell (64) shared 50-plus partnership with Sam Whiteman (22) and Mitchell Marsh (31) before Ashton Turned provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 44.
In reply, the Strikers began disastrously and lost their top three batsmen with only 15 runs on the board. Strikers captain Brad Hodge waged a lone battle but the writing was on the wall when he became the sixth wicket to fall on 86 after scoring 56. Kane Richardson (45 from 28 balls) tried to make the game interesting with a late cameo but it was not enough as his team fell short by 48 runs.

Fantastic spell from @MitchJohnson398 on debut for @ScorchersBBL, with a wicket off his last ball to finish with 3/33 #BBL06 #madetough

Think it's pretty clear @ScorchersBBL are winning, but Richardson doesn't want it to be too easy for them. ? @StrikersBBL @BBL #BBL06

It'd be nice if Kane Richardson got half century here. Coming in lower down the order wouldn't get many opportunities #BBL06 #strikeforce

Ashton Turner @ $251 for POT was genuine value. Reckon he is a future bolter for national honours. Solid batter with handy bowling too
