India players will meet for a week-long camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru ahead of England ODIs and T20Is, scheduled to start on January 15 in Pune.
It has been learnt that the planning of this move has been done by head coach of the Indian team, Anil Kumble, who wants Indian players to regroup and spend some time with each other ahead of the limited-overs series. Skipper M.S. Dhoni will also attend the camp but will leave mid-way to participate in the two practice matches against England. The practice games will aid Dhoni to get some match practice as he hasn’t played any form of competitive cricket since the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year.
Reports also suggest Indian selectors might rest Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav for the ODI and T20I series so as to give them some extra time off ahead of the Bangladesh and Australia Tests.
Meanwhile, we will surely see some changes in the ODI squad as an injury to Rohit Sharma has opened doors for Karun Nair in the team. Also, suspense still looms over the fitness of Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Pandya, this will force the selectors to give much-deserved chance to domestic star Rishabh Pant. KL Rahul is set to be recalled for the ODIs whereas Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh are also in the fray to make a comeback.
The three-match ODI series will kick off on January 15 followed by three T20Is.
