Shankar Basu, the conditioning coach of Indan cricket team, has resigned from his post and has submitted the resignation letter to BCCI. However, the board is yet to take any decision regarding this and even they asked Basu to reconsider his decision but his did not change his mind. It is learnt that Basu hasn’t mentioned any specific reason for stepping down from the job but it is the injuries to Indian players which is understood to be the reason behind him resigning from this post.

Basu was appointed as the conditioning coach of Indian team before the Tests series against Sri Lanka last year. He particularly worked with Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli himself is a big fan of Basu and his work is highly regarded by Virat Kohli. But the flurry of injuries to Indian players since the start of the long home season forced Basu to step down from the post.

VP Sudarshan, whom Basu replaced last year is the frontline replacement for him. In fact, VP Sudarshan is in N.C.A. where the Indian players are to assemble on January 5. He will be the sure shot replacement for Basu if BCCI accepts his resignation.

Shankar Basu has previously worked with IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, squash player Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinnappa as well.
