BBL 06: Twitter Reacts As Melbourne Stars Edge Past Hobart Hurricanes In High-Scoring Encounter 1

Riding on Glenn Maxwell’s 29-ball 58, Melbourne Stars made light work of 189-run target set by Hobart Hurricanes as they chased down the total with over two overs remaining.

Rob Quiney and Luke Wright gave the Stars a flying start by adding 88 runs from only 51 balls for the first wicket. The partnership ended when the former England batsman mistimed his sweep shot and was clean bowled by Cameron Boyce. But the wicket did not derail Stars’ chase as Maxwell fired on all cylinders to kick Hurricanes out of the game. Quiney matched Maxwell stroke for stroke and was dismissed after scoring 75 off 43 balls. His innings was studded with 5 fours and as many maximums. But Maxwell continued the carnage from the other end and finished the match with a four off Stuart Broad.

Earlier, Hobart skipper Tim Paine won the toss and decided to bat first. The skipper led from the very front as his team’s innings revolved around his 91-run knock. The Hurricanes started poorly and were three down with only 32 runs on the board. But a 145-run partnership between Paine and Geroge Bailey (74* off 46 balls) rescued the hosts and took them to a huge total of 188.
