Liverpool are set to make a move for Dutch winger Quincy Promes in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.
The report claims that revered boss Jurgen Klopp will swoop for the youngster after missing out on Germany international Julian Draxler who has agreed to join Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain.
Promes, 24, has enjoyed a prominent couple of years at Spartak Moscow, netting 37 goals in 72 appearances for the club.
The Mirror are also reporting that Promes’ release clause is thought to be around £20 million, so he would represent good value for money for the Merseyside club.
Spartak general director Sergey Rodionov previously admitted that Promes could leave the club for the right price. As per the Mirror, he stated: “We will try to keep him, but yes, he has a release clause. How much, I do not tell.”
With Sadio Mane set to be on Africa Cup of Nations duty throughout January and key man Philippe Coutinho unlikely to return to the pitch in the immediate future, Klopp will be well aware that he needs to add to his options sooner rather than later.
But how would Promes fit in at Anfield? Well, he would certainly slot in nicely in Liverpool’s front three and could pose a threat in front of goal. With 14 caps for the Netherlands, Promes has experience on the international stage and should make a comfortable transition to the Premier League.
Extremely versatile, Promes’ exceptional pace allows his him to make an impact on games from the wing and through the middle.
As well as his speed, the 24-year-old is technically and tactically astute and doesn’t shy away from his defensive duties. These qualities would stand him in good stead under the guidance of Klopp at Anfield. His international manager Danny Blind previously hailed the exciting winger.
“Promes plays every week in a very good league,” Blind has said. “In Russia he is almost always one of the best and I’ve picked him based on what he shows at this club every week. He was the second top scorer of the Russian league last year. I watch him play every week and he looks good.”
