Revealing that he is yet to sign a contract extension, Arsenal star Olivier Giroud has hinted of committing his future to the Gunners.
Earlier this month, reports in French media suggested that the France international has penned down a one-year deal but the striker has quashed all the rumours by saying: “People have been saying I have signed a new contract. It is not true but maybe soon.”
The statement came after the striker, making his first Premier League this term, scored a late winner against West Brom to end Arsenal’s two-match losing streak. Speculations were rife about Giroud’s future at the club after falling down the pecking order following Arsene Wenger’s decision to play Alexis Sanchez as the main striker. He was linked with a January move to AC Milan but Arsenal will be mighty pleased to know that the in-form striker is willing to stay at the Emirates. The club is struggling to tie down Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil and Giroud’s statement will act as a much-needed boost for them.

Speaking about the time when he had to remain on the bench, he said:“It is all about keeping the focus high. Always keep working hard at training.I was speaking with the boss, we had a couple of discussions together and he explained to me why I hadn’t played too much until here. But football is an everlasting new beginning, as I used to say, and you always have to keep focused and wait for your time.”
The French striker has already scored important goals after returning from injury and hoped that his latest exploit will change his fortunes.
He said:“Today I played, I tried to give everything for the team and hopefully things will change for me. But as long as the team is getting better I am happy and I am part of the club since five years and I want to carry on. But we have to see, I need more time of games but we will see in the future. The best thing is to keep within distance of Chelsea.”
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger’s men are currently fourth in the table with 37 points, nine points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea.
