There were reports of Shanker Basu, the conditioning coach of Indian cricket team resigning from the post but now it is learnt that he has asked for a break and will soon return to take up the role.
As per the reports, Basu offered to resign from the post earlier this week but BCCI did not accept his resignation and asked him to continue the role. It was learnt that Basu offered to resign from the post after a flurry of injuries to Indian players since the start of the home season. Tem India suffered first blow in form of KL Rahul who was injured during the first Test against New Zealand followed by Shikhar Dhawan. Many other Indian players also registered their names in the injured player’s list. This forced Basu to offer a resignation.
Basu is believed to be the secret behind fitness of Indian players who now have upgraded to another level of fitness since the appointment of Basu. Virat Kohli especially credits Basu for his fitness. It is also learnt that the Test skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Anil Kumble wants Basu to continue the role.
Taking this into account, Basu is now planning to return to Indian cricket after Champions Trophy as Indian team, next year is scheduled to play all the series outside sub-continent and Basu’s presence will be of utmost importance on international tours.
