Steve O'Keefe To Be Added To Australia's Squad For Sydney Test: Reports 1

Steve O’Keefe is all set to be added to Australia’s squad for the third and the final Test at the SCG, reports suggest. It has been learnt that Steven Smith is contemplating to play two spinners in the next game looking at the nature of the SCG track.

“We’ve had a quick chat to Boof and Trevor Hohns last night,” Smith told ABC Grandstand.

“I think we’re going to wait until this Test match is over and see where things are at moving forward.

“Obviously the bowlers have bowled quite a lot this game and they’ve had a pretty big summer, so there are a few things to talk about.

“I guess it will depend on the wicket. I know in Shield cricket this year that wickets have been spinning quite a lot. We’ll look at that. It is a possibility,” Smith added.

O’Keefe, who participated in the Big Bash League game for Sydney Sixers after the Boxing Day, did not fly with the team to Adelaide, where Sixers are to play Adelaide Strikers on new year’s eve.

Steve O’Keefe last played for Australia in July when he travelled to Sri Lanka with the Test squad before being ruled out due to a hamstring injury. He played the first Test of the series by showing some solid performance in the first tour game where he ended with match figures of 10/64 and also scored 78* runs with the bat.

There are also chances O’Keefe might be the only spinner as skipper Smith said Lyon’s place in the squad is not guaranteed.

Australian selectors will announce the squad for the final Test few hours post the completion of the second Test, which will clear the air surrounding the selection of O’Keefe.
