BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has been chosen to head the board on a temporary basis, after Anurag Thakur was sacked from the Presidency position by the Supreme Court of India on January 2nd, for breaching the perjury code, which even counts for a jail term of around seven years. The decision also saw honorary secretary Ajay Shirke getting the red card.
The Supreme Court after laying down their verdict has handed the responsibility of picking the new boss of BCCI to senior advocate Ajay Divan. Rahul Johri, in the spare time, would monitor the activities of the board and would also chair the meeting where the squad for ODI & T20 series for England would be picked on Friday.
He has been given the green signal by Justice R.M Lodha-led panel to put his participation in day-to-day activities of BCCI until their permanent top boss is selected by January 19th.
After the apex court shell-shocked the board with its bold decision, the name of the office-bearers were removed from the BCCI’s official website bcci.tv.
Earlier, Anurag Thakur led BCCI was warned for using avoidable measures, just to deny the implementation of all recommendations laid by the Lodha Panel for the betterment and transparent functioning of the board. Cricket’s governing body in India, however, seek ICC intervention into the matter, which resulted in them serving severe punishments slapped by the apex court.
After Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy post, BCCI is yet to finalise his replacement and also are yet to pick up the limited-over squad for upcoming England series.
