When the world cricketing world was busy paying tribute to MS Dhoni after he stepped down as the limited-overs skipper of the Indian team, no message from Virender Sehwag left everyone surprised. The former swashbuckling opener, who has made a habit of tweeting on almost every issue, did not wish the outgoing skipper which raised speculations that everything was not fine between the duo. Towards the end of his career, Sehwag struggled to make it to the playing XI as Dhoni was looking to include players who were quick on the field. As a result, the duo were reportedly not on good terms. However, Sehwag has quashed all the speculation by paying a brilliant tribute to India’s most decorated skipper.
The Nawab of Najafgarh also revealed the reason behind his late wish. Writing in his column for Cricket Talkies, he wrote:“Mahendra Singh Dhoni resigned as captain of the Indian One Day and T20I Team on 4th January. This has happened a few days earlier than I expected. 7 is his favourite number and I thought it was apt to wish him the very best going forward as a wicket-keeper batsman on the 7th.
Sehwag further added: “His skills on the field as a player and captain are known to everyone , but he is a even better human being with a big big heart. It’s also fitting that he and the team played with names of their mother on the India Jersey in the last match he captained for India. I wish him all the very best in everything that he does.”
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli was named the captain in both limited-overs formats on Friday after the five-member selection panel announced the squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against England.
