Mahendra Singh Dhoni Saved Me From Getting Dropped Many Times: Virat Kohli 1

Newly appointed India captain Virat Kohli, on Saturday, shared a heartfelt message for former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who decided to step down as the India captain in both ODIs and T20Is earlier this week.

Kohli, the 28-year-old Delhi batsman, will now take charge across all three formats once the England ODI series begins January 15.

Kohli, in a video posted on BCCI’s Twitter handle, said: “Obviously these are massive shoes to fill, there is no doubt about it. You think of MS Dhoni and the first word that comes to mind is ‘captain’. You don’t relate Dhoni in any other way.”

Virat Kohli strived to become one of the best players in the world under the able leadership of MS Dhoni. The new skipper is thankful to his predecessor for all the support he gave even when Virat was out of form during the early days of his playing career.

“For me he is always going to be my captain because I started my career under him. He’s handing over the leadership to me. He’ll always be the person who guided me initially and gave me opportunities.

“He gave me ample space and ample time to grow as a cricketer. He also saved me from getting dropped from the team many times,” the 28-year-old said.
