Confirmed: David Wiese Signs Kolpak Deal, Moves To Sussex 1

David Wiese has confirmed a move to Sussex county club as the 31-year old South African all-rounder has signed the Kolpak deal. He is the fourth South African player in the current time to sign Kolpak deal after Kyle Abbott, Rilee Rossouw and Merchant de Lange. Wiese has informed South African board regarding the same and will now no longer be available for the selection in the national squad.

Jacques Faul, the chief executive officer of Titan confirmed the news and said, “David’s decision to sign a Kolpak-deal for Sussex is indeed a sad day for us at the franchise and for South Africa,”.

“It is sad because we obviously pride ourselves in being a successful conveyor belt for international players. South Africa is losing the services of a match-winning all-rounder whose tremendous straight hitting and masterful change of pace make him an asset to any team.

“He has also committed himself to represent the Titans for the rest of his career. He is a whole-hearted performer and a dedicated human being who commands the utmost respect,” Faul said.

“We wish David a very successful Kolpak-career for Sussex and trust that he will be a proud flag-bearer of South Africa and the Titans.”

“For us, it is disappointing that would not be available for the Proteas in the T20-series against Sri Lanka,” Faul concluded.

Wiese played a total of 20 T20Is and six ODIs for South Africa. He was a promising T20 player before he was given a chance in ODI cricket. His one-day numbers are inferior in competition to his T20I numbers. It was his performance in T20Is that earned him a place in ODI squad.

Wiese was also a member of Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in IPL but was released for IPL 2017. He will also no longer be available to play in IPL.

Apart from Wiese, many other South African players, for example, Colin Ingram, Stiaan van Zyl, Simon Harmer and Hardus Viljoen have already signed for various county teams through Kolpak.
