The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), on Wednesday (January 11), revealed the fixtures for Pakistan series, that comprises of three Tests, three One-day internationals and two Twenty20 internationals to be played between March and May this year.
The full-fledged Caribbean home series will begin from March 31 with two T20 games which will be played on March 31 and April 2 at Queen’s Park Oval.
Both teams will play the three-match ODI series from 7th, 9th and 11th April at Guyana National Stadium.
The West Indies is currently placed 9th in ICC ODI Team Rankings with 86 points and Pakistan is three points ahead of the Caribbean side. The 50-over series would be crucial for both the sides as the cut-off date for direct qualification for the World Cup 2019 is September 30, 2017
Before starting the three-match Test series, Pakistan will play a three-day warm-up match on April 15 at Trelawny Stadium.
From 22nd April, Pakistan and West Indies will play first Test of the series at Sabina Park followed by second Test at Kensignton Oval on April 30. The third and final Test will be held on May 10 at Windsor Park, Dominica.
The WICB manger of operations Roland Holder has urged his national side to do well while considering it as a biggest opportunity in its backyard.
“To improve its ranking. Any series against Pakistan always poses an interesting contest for the West Indies,” Roland said.
Earlier, the WICB was mulling to play two T20s in Pakistan in March this year following the request from Pakistan Cricket Board.
In September last year, at adopted home United Arab Emirates – Pakistan thrashed West Indies in T20Is and ODIs by 3-0 followed by three-match Test series 2-1.
In 2013, Pakistan toured West Indies and clinched the ODI series 3-1 followed by two-match T20Is series 2-0.
