Just as it seemed that England opener Jason Roy was running away with the game, it needed a moment of smartness from Ravindra Jadeja to send the opener back to the dressing room. Jadeja, who is playing an ODI after nearly a year, looked in great shape as he strangled Roy and Joe Root with his accurate bowling. He restricted the duo to just ones and that pretty much frustrated Roy.
In a bid to up the ante, Roy danced down the track and reading the batsman’s likely movement, Jadeja smartly bowled a round arm delivery. Expecting the ball to turn, Roy was terribly mistaken as it went straight on underneath his bat. Playing just a wicketkeeper batsman, Mahendra Singh Dhoni made no mistake what so ever as he calmly took the bails off to end Roy’s vigil.
Roy was left stranded halfway down the track as India got a much needed wicket. The South Africa born England opener was dismissed for 73 off just 61 deliveries as he took a toll on some wayward Indian bowling. Roy’s attractive knock included 12 stunning boundaries as his knock propelled England off to a more than just a decent start.
He was particularly harsh towards pacer Umesh Yadav as he took a liking for him and had no trouble in putting him away to the boundary. However, he didn’t seem all that comfortable against the spin of Ravindra Jadeja and was eventually dismissed by him.
Roy was dismissed on 73, with the score being 108-2 in 18.3 overs. Below is the video of Roy’s dismissal.
