Mohammad Hafeez Calls Pakistan's Win Over Australia At MCG a 'Special, Special Blessing' 1

Pakistan’s stand-in-skipper Mohammad Hafeez has termed his side’s six-wicket win over Australia in the second ODI at Melbourne a ‘special, special blessing’ and that the bowlers took responsibility early on, which build up the momentum for the visitors in the match.

Talking about the much-needed win, the all-rounder said Pakistan learned from their mistakes and took the charge upon them to change the numbers, and thus the history on Sunday.

“This win was a special, special blessing. Everyone took that responsibility to do that job for Pakistan. Last game, we had our moments but we couldn’t continue that pressure. We had a good team meeting and REALIZED the importance of taking responsibility. Stats have changed, history has changed.”

During the post-match conference, Hafeez said his side couldn’t capitalize on the crucial moments in the last game but were firm to take the chances this time around. He further added the players stepped on the field with an attacking approach, and he was glad it continued till the end.

Mohammad Amir along with Junaid Khan picked up five wickets, which helped Pakistan restrict Australia by 220 in the second ODI in Melbourne.

Pakistan’s last win over Australia in an ODI in Melbourne was 32 years back, and the numbers did not seem to bother Hafeez either, as he claimed, the negativity and the past records were not something the side was thinking of.

“Last game, when we had to put the pressure, our bowlers couldn’t respond. In this match, our bowlers didn’t let go of that attacking tendency. For me as a captain, and even the coach, we had to ensure we played attacking and positive cricket. We couldn’t be negative and think about the past.”

The 36-year-old wasn’t a part of the ODI squad before and was a late addition at the behest of team management, led by Mickey Arthur. However, feeling alright with his form, Hafeez said he was confident he’ll return, given his good performance in the domestic structure.

“I was never negative, I knew I’ll be back in the team at any stage. My performance was not good at the domestic level, but the management trusted my ability and asked me to come here and add the value to the team.”

Australia will now face Pakistan in the third One-Dayer at Perth on Thursday, January 19.
