Manchester United target Tiemoue Bakayoko might not leave AS Monaco this month as the club are ready to tie him down with a new deal.
The 22-year old Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after his consistent performances for AS Monaco in Ligue 1 this season, Bakayoko has been a subject of interest for a number of Premier League clubs since last summer and the player is only getting better in the ongoing season.
Earlier it was reported that the midfielder is Jose Mourinho’s No.1 target in the January transfer window but despite all the speculations surrounding his future, AS Monaco are ready to offer him a new contract that will see him at the French club for the foreseeable future.
Bakayoko is expected to replace MIchael Carrick at Old Trafford as the latter is expected to leave the club at the end of the current season. The 35-year old’s contract will expire in the summer and Mourinho is keen to bring in a long term replacement for the Englishman as he will be tough to replace.
Monaco’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has revealed that Bakayoko will stay with the club as he will sign a new deal in the coming days. The French club are desperate to keep hold of their stars as Manchester United were also interested in signing defender Fabinho last summer but Monaco have managed to tie him down to a long term contract to ward off the interest from the Premier League giants.
“I’ve just extended Fabinho’s contract, and we’re doing the same with [Thomas] Lemar, Bakayoko and [Valere] Germain,” Vasilyev told French outlet Canal+.
Bakayoko have made an impressive 17 league appearances for AS Monaco and have been at the heart of their midfield since the start of the season. He is currently in the middle of his five year contract with the club with he has signed in 2014 after joining them from Rennes.
