Tillakaratne Dilshan, former Sri Lanka captain and opener, has signed for City Kaitak for the upcoming edition of Hong Kong T20 Blitz. With this, he becomes the fourth biggest signing of the season as earlier, the likes of Shahid Afridi, Kumar Sangakkara and Darren Sammy confirmed their participation for the tournament.
“I am very excited to be associated with City Kaitak and looking forward to playing in Hong Kong with a great bunch of young Hong Kong players. Not only will I use every opportunity to play my favourite shot, Dilscoop, wearing the City Kaitak colours and entertain the viewers, but I will help with the long-term development of the game in Hong Kong,” said the former Sri Lankan opener who retired from international cricket last year.
A City Kaitak spokesperson expressed his happiness with Dilshan’s signing as he said:
“We are extremely delighted to have such a senior and respected player like Dilshan join our City Kaitak team, which has good mix of young talented cricketers of Hong Kong. The way tournament is shaping up, we are confident that this event will be watched and followed by cricketing fans around the world.
“With four more overseas players yet to be announced, City Kaitak team is a clear favourite of the Blitz. Bringing Robin Singh as the international coach and mentor, and experienced Dilshan is clearly a part of team’s vision: “Be a part, Stand apart.”
HKI United, Kowloon Cantons, Hung Hom JD Jaguars, Galaxy Gladiators Lantau and City Kaitak are the five teams which will participate in the five-day tournament, to be played from March 8. It’s not the first time when the event will witness international stars as in past, international players Michael Clarke, Ryan Campbell and Jamie Atkinson have graced the tournament.
Kowloon Cantons are the current champions of the Hong Kong T20 Blitz tournament.
