Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has joined an elite list of Indians who have scored 4000 or plus runs in ODI in India during the second One-Dayer against England in Cuttack.
During the course of the first innings, Dhoni reached the milestone and became only the second batsman after batting great Sachin Tendulkar to achieve such a feat. Dhoni, who completed his tenth century on Thursday, stitched together a 256-run stand for the fourth wicket with Yuvraj Singh, guiding India to put a mammoth total of 381 for six on the board.
Dhoni, however, surpassed Rahul Dravid’s tally of 3406 runs and entered into history books, but is still far away from matching Sachin’s record of 6976 runs.

The right-handed batsman was in some mood on Thursday, hammering the English bowlers all over the park at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. In his stint of 122 runs on the crease, Mahi pulled off few blinders, as he blasted six sixes in his innings. He, also broke another record, for being the first Indian to hit 200 sixes in ODI’s, with many more likely to come.
In the wake to make English bowlers suffering, MS Dhoni scored ten boundaries in total and went after Liam Plunkett in the 48th over, where he lofted three massive sixes before finding David Willey in the deep for well made 138.
With 9,116 runs in 284* ODIs, Dhoni is the fifth highest run-getter for India in ODIs. Tendulkar (18,426 runs), Sourav Ganguly (11,221), Dravid (10,768), Mohammad Azharuddin (9378) are the ones above him.
