Stylish batsmen Steven Smith on December 17th will become the 3rd youngest Australian captain to lead them in Tests. He’ll achieve this feat against India in the second Test of the Border-Gavaksar Trophy at Brisbane. Smith will also become the 45th Australian Test captain.
Earlier, it was expected that Brad Haddin would lead the side in the absence of Michael Clarke, whose career in hanging in balance now, but Australian selectors sought a more long-term solution than temporarily handing the control to the 37-year old Haddin. However, Haddin will continue to be the vice-captain of the side as selectors feel that his experience will come in handy for Smith to develop well as a captain.
The other players who have captained Australia at a very young age are Kim Hughes, Ian Craig and Billy Murdoch.
