Rahul Dravid Turns Down Honorary Doctorate From Bangalore University 1

That there cannot be another modest cricketer like Rahul Dravid has been proved by the latest incident where the legendary batsman, on Wednesday (January 25), declined to accept an honorary doctorate to be conferred by the Bangalore University.

The former India skipper, who was due to be honoured during the 52nd convocation of the university on January 27, wrote to the university vice-chancellor B Thimmegowda stating that instead of accepting the doctorate degree he would rather earn it by accomplishing some form of academic research in sports.

In a statement released on Wednesday,  Mr Thimmegowda said the decision to honour the former Indian cricketer was taken by the university and the Governor, who is the chancellor of university.

“Sri Rahul Dravid, while thanking Bangalore University for recognising him for the honorary degree, has conveyed that he would try to earn a doctorate degree by accomplishing some form of academic in research in the field of sports rather than receiving an honorary degree,” Mr Thimmegowda said.

The India U-19 coach, who played 164 Tests and 344 ODIs for India, had previously refused an honorary doctorate from Gulbarga University, too.
