One of the leading wicket takers in cricket and India’s highest wicket taker in tests, Anil Kumble has recently taken a step to find the spinning talents from the country. He has organized measures to quest for spinning talent in India. After screening, the young talents will be trained accordingly.
Anil Kumble said that he is quite pleased that despite of it being not much of a high profile campaign, as many as 3000 teenagers do have registered to be part of the Anil Kumble Spin Stars which is majorly a talent hunt for the spinners. Kumble also added that the heart warming thing is that as many as half of the registered applicants’ ages lie between 13 and 15 and this is perhaps the rightmost age to start off things.
Kumble had been a great leg spinner of his time and he is no doubt one of the greatest leg spinners the World has ever seen. He was excited by seeing that nearly 900 aspirants have identified themselves as leg spinners and 1500 have registered as off-spinners while the remaining aspirants ticked on the ‘don’t know’ column.
Kumble said that as they do not possess any sponsors at the moment, thus they are restricted to Karnataka only. He said that the project is being run by his company, Tenvic. He also added that the selection would be held from January 3rd to 5th next year. And the finals will be held on January 17th or 18th at the Narayan Raju Cricket Centre in Palace Grounds.
Kumble also disclosed of the fact the former Indian leg-spinner, BS Chandrasekhar will be present at the finals in Bangalore. He also added that the prize for the top 20 bowlers will be a week-long training camp with top quality coaches at Karnataka in May, 2015. He also added that they are sure to unearth some of the precious talents.
He also added that the first three boys will be awarded with scholarships worth Rs. 1 Lakh each to arrange for funds for their education.
