BBL 06 Final: Perth Scorchers Decimate Sydney Sixers To Win Third BBL Title 1
Perth Scorchers defeated Sydney Sixers by 9 wickets to win the BBL 06.

All eyes were firmly set on Mitchell Johnson when Perth Scorchers skipper Adam Voges won the toss and invited Sydney Sixers to set a target in the Big Bash League title decider. The former Australia bowler had tormented Melbourne Stars in the semi-finals and the stage was once again set for a Mitchell Johnson special and the left-arm pacer did not disappoint as his 1 for 13 in four overs set the tone for his team.

Jhye Richardson reaped the rewards of the pressure created by Johnson’s disciplined bowling as his three-wicket haul that included the prized scalp of in-form Moises Henriques pushed the Sixers completely on the backfoot. Richardson’s spell reduced the Sixers to 80 for 6 in the 12th over. Johan Botha then scored 32 to take his team to a respectable total of 141.

The target was never going to be an imposing one for the in-form Scorchers and the Perth-based outfit showed why they are the most successful team in the history of BBL. Chasing a paltry 142, Sam Whiteman and Michael Klinger fired on all cylinders and added 75 runs for the first wicket off only 45 balls before the former was stumped off the bowling of Nathan Lyon. Klinger and Ian Bell then scored the remaining runs with utmost ease to help the Scorchers win their third BBL title in six seasons.

Brief score:

Sydney Sixers 141/9 (Haddin 38, Richardson 3-30) lost to Perth Scorchers 144/1 (Klinger 71*, Whiteman 41) with 25 balls to spare.
