South Africa batsman Hashim Amla has praised his side’s coaching staff ahead of the second ODI match against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The former Test skipper said it’s because of the them the team has stayed motivated for larger part of their tours and home series, which is brilliant at the end of the day.
Russell Domingo, South Africa’s head coach, still has six months left before he’ll have to re-apply for the post, as per reports. Going by the suggestions from board’s top bosses, Domingo will undergo the interview procedure all over again, after his coaching position will be advertised by the end of England tour.
The coaching staff of the Proteas side includes assistant coach Adrian Birrell, bowling coach Charl Langeveldt, batting coach Neil McKenzie, spin consultant Claude Henderson and fitness trainer Greg King. The training procedure will dent if a change of head coach happens in coming days, which could turn out to be a dicey situation for the side.
Having struggled to score runs in the past year, Amla said the side has a lot to achieve in the bracket of six months before a decision on the new coaching is taken.
“It hasn’t affected the coaches too much. They still seem extremely motivated, which is brilliant. They have been professional in everything they have done. Don’t forget it’s still six or seven months away, which is a long time. In between that, we have so many different challenges to keep our focus on.”
