Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool managed to stop their descent down the Premier League table this week as they managed to hold on to a gritty Chelsea side that is currently at the top of the table.
The manager made quite a few signings in the summer transfer window but has not been able to play a full strength squad regularly. This has seen him look into the transfer window for additions in the winter window.
The Reds were linked to some big names during the month, but Klopp was adamant that he will spend only on players that suit his style.
This has seen him fail to land a single player before the deadline day. However, they did complete a few deals for players at the club and here is all the transfer activity that happened at Anfield in January:
Ins:
None
The Reds were looking at the likes of Leandro Paredes, Joe Hart, William Carvalho and Julian Brandt among other to add their squad in January.
But none of the top transfer targets for the club were ready for a move, leaving Klopp with little options. The manager decided not to spend in January and will go into the rest of the season with the same squad at the start.
Outs:
Tiago Ilori – Reading – Undisclosed

The first transfer for Liverpool in January, Llori, completed a permanent switch to Championship outfit Reading as Jurgen Klopp does not see him in his plans for the future.
Ilori got his chance in the cup competitions this season but has now completed an exit from Anfield, in three and a half years at Anfield. He is expected to be a backup at his new club this season.(Source)
Pedro Chirivella – Go Ahead Eagle – Loan
Jurgen Klopp is adamant that he wants his academy players to live up to first team standards and one player who he might turn to in the future is Spaniard Pedro Chirivella.
The Spanish teenager, a regular for the club’s U23s this term, will spend the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign gaining experience in the Eredivisie.(Source)
Joe Maguire – Fleetwood – Undisclosed
The 20-year-old had been in and out of the U23s’ lineup this season, with the likes of Juanma, Corey Whelan and Trent Alexander-Arnold preferred at full-back.
Though primarily a left-back, Maguire can also operate at right-back and centre-back, and made one appearance for the Liverpool first team and will spend the rest of the season on loan at Fleetwodd.(Source)
Lazar Markovic – Hull City – Loan

The Serbian winger has not been able to impress the manager at Liverpool and his performance for Lisbon were also not appreciated.
His loan was cut short at the start of the month but Klopp was quick to act and send him out again. He is now a Hull City player on loan from Liverpool for the rest of the season.(Source)
Cameron Brannagan – Fleetwood – Loan
Yet another youngster that Klopp has high hopes on, Brannagan, is a regular for the Reds’ U23 side having graduated through the Academy ranks.
The midfielder will spend the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign with the League One club after completing the deal earlier this month.(Source)
Jack Dunn – Tranmere – Loan
A deadline day deal for Liverpool, Jack Dunn, is now at Tranmere to play the rest of the season in search of regular game time, on loan away from Anfield.
The 22-year-old has signed at Prenton Park on deadline day to try to help fire Micky Mellon’s men to promotion from National League.(Source)
Mamadou Sakho – Crystal Palace – Loan

The French defender has not been able to break into the first team after his antics in the pre-season tour and he is not in the plans of the manager at Anfield.
He was up for sale at around £20m but Palace were not ready to meet the valuation. Instead, they have taken the 26-year old on loan till the end of the season, agreeing to pay £2m to Liverpool for his services and the player’s wages in full. (Source)
