Nervous Nineties, Cricketers, International Cricket, ODI, Top Five,

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Chief Selector Inzamam-Ul-Haq has briefed the media while stating the board would like to give a rousing send-off to their senior International players who served the country for long periods in different formats of the game so far.

“It’s their right. Although that [naming the captain] is PCB chief Shaharyar Khan’s domain, I believe one captain for all formats is a good step and other countries have also started doing that,” Inzamam was quoted by Dawn.com.

On the other side, former Pakistan’s fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has expressed to see the 22-year-old Babar Azam as the successor of Test skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq after Pakistan’s disastrous tour to Australia.

The 41-year-old Rawalpindi express Akhtar reiterated the Pakistan Cricket Board selectors must invest in future prospects.

The Lahore-born Azam who is averaging over 27 in Tests, has excelled in his early career in limited-overs cricket.

Azam, who is seen as the best prospect among the current crop of cricketers in Pakistan has amassed 1168 runs in 23 matches at an average of 53.09 and he averaging 116 in four Twenty20 Internationals while scoring 116.

However, the former Pakistan skipper Inzamam did not mention the names of players, but he seemed to refer to the Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq, former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who relinquished from the T20 captaincy after the disastrous T20 World Cup in India in 2016, followed by the middle-order batsmen Younis Khan, who had already retired from limited-overs cricket in 2015.

The veteran Inzamam also hinted the former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt and fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who served the ban on match-fixing saga after Lord’s infamous Test could make international return on the basis of their performances which according to him would be board’s first priority.

“Changing a captain in haste could backfire as the performance in all the other departments has to be reviewed,” Inzamam concluded.

Pakistan will be touring to West Indies to play three ODIs, two T20Is and three Tests. The tour will kick start from March 31 in Port of Spain.
