David Miller has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against Sri Lanka as the left-handed batsman suffered a cut on his finger in the right hand while fielding in the second innings of the second ODI at Kingsmead.

It comes as a big setback for the South Africa team as Miller, in the last game, played a magnificent innings of 117* off just 98 deliveries to lift their batting line-up. The Proteas were struggling at a score of 108/4 when Miller joined Faf du Plessis in the middle. They went on to share 117 runs for the fifth wicket, propelling the hosts to 307/6.

Miller, after the dismissal of Plessis, continued to pile on the misery of Sri Lankan bowlers as he went to share partnerships of 60 and 22* with Chris Morris and Wayne Parnell respectively.

Riding on his and Faf du Plessis’ century, South Africa crushed Sri Lanka by a margin of 121 runs at the end of the day.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is yet to name a replacement for Miller. The third ODI of the series will be played at the Wanderers on January 4.
