India brought curtains on a long series against England in the best possible manner as they thrashed the visitors by 75 runs in the last T20I to win the series 2-1. The chief-architect of this win was Yuzvendra Chahal.
Chasing an imposing 203, England were well-placed at 119 for 2 with Eoin Morgan and Joe Root well set at the crease. However, they lost their remaining eight wickets for only 8 runs, handing India a comprehensive victory to bag the series 2-1. But then stepped in Chahal and completely changed the course of the match The leggie dismissed Root and Morgan in successive deliveries to derail’s England’s chase. In his next over, Chahal took three wickets to reduce England to 127/8. Jasprit Bumrah did the rest as India won the match with utmost ease.
Meanwhile, Chahal’s figures of 6/25 is now the best by an India bowler surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin’s 4/8 against Sri Lanka last year. His six-wicket haul is only the third six-wicket haul in T20Is after two from Ajantha Mendis.
As expected, the mood and spirit in the team was very high after an emphatic win and Chahal was the centre of attraction throughout the celebration. The newcomer was picked on the lap during the match by Yuvraj Singh before the Punjab star had a hilarious interview with his former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate. And the celebrations continued at the team hotel too and Chahal was once again the main man. The tweaker was greeted with a cake when the team returned to the hotel. However, what happened next was probably totally unexpected by Chahal. As soon as Chahal cut the cake, Dhoni held the bowler from behind while Mandeep Singh and Virat Kohli buried Chahal’s face straight into the cake, making the other team members, including Yuvraj Singh, burst into laughter.
Here is a clip of that celebration:
