Umpteenth number of times, we all have witnessed cricket matches getting stopped due to rain, flood light issues, any other weather issue but the ongoing third One-Day International between South Africa and Sri Lanka at the Wanderers in Johannesburg was interrupted by something that does not happen regularly as a swarm of bees halted play midway through Sri Lanka’s innings.
The game was interrupted by the bees twice- the first time in the 25th over which made the slip fielders drop to the ground. Other players followed soon and there was a short delay. Play resumed shortly afterwards but the bees attacked again in the 27th over and the umpires had to stop the play.
The players returned to the field after a delay of about 20 minutes but had to vacate the ground again as there were still bees on the field. The match began eventually after an hour.

Meanwhile, the incident, it seems, had affected the Sri Lankan batsmen’s concentration as they lost their remaining 6 wickets for only 46 runs to set the hosts a paltry target of 163.
