India is scheduled to play the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (The Boxing Day Test) at Melbourne. Currently, India is trailing 0-2 in the series and with two more Tests to go, India would hope that their fortunes turnaround from Melbourne itself.
However, if we see India’s Test record at Melbourne, it doesn’t seem to impress anyone at all. Starting from 1948, India have a played a total of 11 Tests at Melbourne, out of which they have lost 8, won only 2 and one was a draw. Their last Test victory at this venue came way back in 1981.
The last time India played a Test at Melbourne was during their tour in 2011, where they got whitewashed 0-4. India lost that match by 122 runs, even after being in the driver’s seat for the first two and a half days.
Obviously, India’s Test life at Melbourne hasn’t been easy but let us hope that the following stats don’t have an impact over the match India will play at this venue from December 26th.
