Irfan Pathan Ignored And Parthiv Patel Gets Captaincy Of West Zone 1

Gujarat captain and wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel on Monday has been named as a skipper for the West Zone team after the 15-member squad was picked by West Zone selectors for the All-India Inter-Zonal Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The meeting was convened by West Zone chairman Milind Rege on February 6.

Mumbai skipper Aditya Tare, who was released by Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad this year, has been announced as the vice-captain of the West Zone squad. The tournament will kick-start on Sunday (February 12).

The 31-year-old Patel, who has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit recently led Gujarat in their maiden Ranji Trophy title by five wickets against Mumbai at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

The wily customer Jasprit Bumrah was selected alongside Priyank Panchal, Rujul Bhatt and Ishwar Chaudhary from Gujarat.

Baroda and Maharashtra skippers Irfan Pathan and Kedar Jadhav were also inducted in the squad. Whereas fast bowler Shardul Thakur will feature alongside his Mumbai teammates Abhishek Nayar and Shreyas Iyer in the team.

However, Jagdish Zope, who is a left-arm spinner for Maharashtra has also been named in the squad after picking four wickets in four games.

Ankit Bawne, who has been the highest run-getter in the Zonal T20 league and top-order batsman Shreyas Iyer are expected to get released after playing two games as they are the also part of India A side.
