Riding on centuries from Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli, India put themselves on the driver’s seat as they finished the first day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh on 356/3.
The hosts did not have the best of starts as KL Rahul departed in the very first over. Looking to play a Taskin Ahmed delivery away from the body, the Karnataka opener chopped the delivery onto his pads which then went on to dislodge his timbers. However, the Bangladeshi bowlers were then sent on a leather hunt as Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara added 178 runs for the second wicket to put India in command. The partnership was broken when Pujara, who created a new record by scoring the most number of runs in a single first-class season for an Indian batsman en-route to his 83 runs knock, fell to Mehedi Hasan.
The hosts further strengthened their grip on the match after Vijay added a fifty stand with skipper Virat Kohli before the opener’s 108-run knock came to an end when he was clean bowled by Taijul Islam. Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane then made sure to capitalise on the solid platform by sharing an unbeaten partnership of 122. In the meantime, Kohli scored his 16 Test century and was unbeaten on 111 while Rahane was playing on 45.

101 runs, just 10 fours and still he has a SR of 77. Says a lot about Kohli's running and ability to maneuver the ball in gaps. #IndvsBan
