Pakistan players Mohammad Irfan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the three players have allegedly tried corrupt practices in Pakistan Super League (PSL), that kicked off from February 9.

Irfan got suspended Saturday morning whereas the other two were sent back home On Friday itself. All three players are a part of Islamabad United.

PCB issued a statement over this which read:

“The Pakistan Cricket Board have today provisionally suspended two players under its Anti-Corruption code as part of an ongoing syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the Pakistan Super League which started in Dubai yesterday.”

Najam Sethi, the PSL Chairman, also commented on the issue and said,

“Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by the ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport.

“It would not be appropriate to comment on the specifics of the case, however, this investigation is a clear demonstration of our determination to drive corruption out of our sport.”

While Shahryar Khan, the Chairman of PCB, has urged players to report to the board if anyone approaches them for these practices.

“I must remind all players of their responsibilities in the fight against corruption. They must understand that if they even think they may have been the subject of a suspicious approach, it is their obligation under the PCB Anti-Corruption Code to report it to an appropriate anti-corruption official as a matter of urgency,” he said.

Sharjeel has played a total of 25 ODIs and a Test for Pakistan and was a part of the ODI squad for Australia tour. On the other hand, Latif, who has played 13 T20Is and five ODIs for Pakistan, last represented the country during the series against the West Indies in UAE.

As per reports, five more players who are a part of different PSL teams are under scanner.
