Injured Mitchell Marsh ruled out of Sydney Test 1

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the 4th Test at Sydney against India starting January 6th after the scans confirmed problems with his injured hamstring.

Marsh, who injured his right hamstring during the second Test at Gabba, was unable to bowl in the rest of the match and was also deemed unfit for the ongoing third Test at Melbourne. Joe Burns, who was Marsh’s replacement in the 3rd Test, will most likely fill the spot again in the next Test.

Alex Kountouris, the Australian team’s physio was quoted in saying:

“(Marsh) will not be available for the Sydney Test.

“Our focus for Mitchell will now be on his return to one-day cricket as we lead into the tri-series.”

Mitchell Marsh scored a total of 98 runs in the first two Tests at an average of 32.66 and looked quite lethal in his short bowling spells, but picked up only 1 wicket. With just one and a half months to go for the World Cup, Australia have done the right thing in giving full-time to Marsh to recover from his injury as he will be crucial to Australia’s chances at the World Cup.
