Luke Shaw was considered as one of the finest young full backs in England when Manchester United signed him for a record fee in 2014 under Louis van Gaal.
Despite a string of impressive performances in the early days of his Manchester United career, he has suffered a horrific leg break against PSV Eindhoven last season which had a major impact in his career.
After recovering from his injury, Luke Shaw has failed to regain his full form and has fallen down the pecking order under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese tactician has not featured the youngster in most of the games this season as he hardly put him on the bench. He has managed only 14 appearances for the club across all so far this season and has not featured in Premier League since October.
Luke Shaw is finding it hard to get into the first team as Mourinho has provided more regular starts to the likes of Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind. He has also featured Matteo Darmian ahead of Shaw this season which has raised few eyebrows.
However, the Portuguese tactician has revealed that he is opting for Darmian since the Italian is more versatile than his English counterpart.
Mourinho said: “He [Shaw] has to work and wait.
“I wanted one defender on the bench and the defender is someone who can play in more than one position.
“Darmian can play left back, right back and an emergency central defender for us, so my choice was Darmian.”
Still at 21, Shaw has the potential to be a future star for Manchester United and will need to keep working hard like Bastian Schweinsteiger to win his place back in the squad.
Despite Mourinho’s views, Luke Shaw’s representatives are not happy with the way he is treating the youngster and are hopeful that he provides much more playing time for the defender in the coming weeks.
