Australian Cricket Team is well versed with the fact that spin will have a crucial role to play in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Kangaroos were white-washed last year against Sri Lanka and it’s pretty sure they wouldn’t have forgotten the 4-0 whitewash they suffered at the hands of India in 2013.
In both series, it were the spinners who did most of the damage with Australian batsmen dancing to their tunes.
Their poor run against spinners forced them to undergo a preparatory camp in the UAE ahead of the start of the series so as to assimilate with the conditions in India.
Australian batsmen will have to especially mould themselves as per the conditions so as to survive against Indian spinners and it seems like they’ve already made a plan as vice-captain David Warner has said the visitors have a special plan to counter India’s spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin.
“I have to respect a player like Ashwin. He thinks like a batsman and I have to be disciplined against him. I have a game plan for him – I have to bat against his strength. He is going to be ready for me and we both have to adopt to the situation. It’s going to be a great battle for the both of us. I have to bide my time.”
It’s for sure Warner will have a great role to play in the series as he is one of the players who know the conditions very well and in fact led his team Sunrisers Hyderabad to IPL triumph last year after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL).
The first Test match of the series will be played at Pune from February 23. Bengaluru, Ranchi and Dharamsala will host the rest of the games.
